Frequentis, an Austrian technology company, has deployed its advanced aviation message handling system (AMHS) across ASECNA member countries.

ASECNA is the Agency for Aerial Navigation Safety in Africa and Madagascar.

With the installation of the AMHS technology, ASECNA member countries including Cameroon, Comoros, Côte d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, and the Central African Republic will benefit from the upgrade of their existing aeronautical fixed telecom network (AFTN) messaging service.

The integrated messaging solution aims to enhance communication capability and support the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO) basic and extended AMHS service profiles.

For this project, Frequentis Comsoft supplied the complete AMHS product portfolio, including the AMHS system AIDA-NG, CADAS-ATS, and an ATS terminal for messaging services and flight planning, which have been designed to support the move from AFTN to AMHS.

Frequentis Comsoft managing director Constantin von Reden said: “With eight African nations changing from AFTN to AMHS, the whole African airspace becomes more modern, reliable, and secure.

“For the Frequentis Group, it is the first major infrastructure programme in Africa, and we are proud to add ASECNA to our list of happy clients. Covid-19 travel restrictions brought challenges however virtual capabilities and long-term partnerships helped us to deliver.

“This includes the support from our established cooperation with the French Air Navigation Service Provider, DSNA, who provided operational training sessions in two of the eight locations in Africa.”

Currently, Frequentis’ integrated and mature AFTN/AMHS technology is operational in nearly 90 countries.
