Electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft company Eve Air Mobility has partnered with Brazil-based aircraft manufacturer Embraer to announce its first eVTOL production facility in Brazil.
The joint venture will be built as part of an expansion of Embraer’s existing site in the city of Taubaté, in the Brazillian state of São Paulo, after approval from the relevant authorities.
Eve co-CEO Andre Stein said: “Our objective is to offer safe and reliable products and services to the market and be highly competitive in manufacturing efficiency.
“The team was tasked with the opportunity to design an optimised assembly line that prioritises safety, quality, efficiency, productivity and sustainability.”
The site has been strategically chosen by Eve, thanks to its proximity to two highways and a railroad, as well as the advantages brought by being near Embraer’s headquarters in São José dos Campos.
Embraer President and CEO Francisco Gomes Neto said: “This decision is aligned with our growth strategy plan, which is driven by innovation and sustainability.
“We believe in the enormous potential of the global urban air mobility market and we reinforce our commitment to Eve as one of the major players in this industry.”
While Eve has already established many partnerships with some of the aviation industry’s biggest players, including United Airlines, the building of its first full production facility is a big step for the company.
The eVTOL market overall has seen a surge in activity in recent years as the industry gets closer to seeing the technology make it to the mainstream, with Joby Aviation celebrating the first flight permit for an eVTOL vehicle from the US Federal Aviation Administration earlier this month.
