The Aerowest joint venture, comprising BMD construction and Seymour Whyte Constructions, has won the contract for executing landside works at Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSIA) in Australia.
Scope of the contract covers the development of ground transport operational facilities to facilitate journeys to and from the airport.
These include car parks, electric vehicle charging stations, along with holding areas for point-to-point transport services.
The contract is also expected to support the integration of complementary infrastructure projects with WSIA, including the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport rail link and the M12 motorway.
Additionally, technology services provider DXC Technology has been chosen as Master Systems Integrator for the airport.
The company will design and deliver WSIA’s technology framework.
This will enable communication between more than 60 technology systems and the systems of airlines, air cargo operators, retail tenants and government agencies.
WSIA is slated to open in 2026, with its terminal expected to have a yearly passenger handling capacity of up to ten million at launch.
Plans are on to expand the airport by the 2060s to handle 82 million passengers annually.
Last month, construction officially began on WSIA’s passenger terminal.
Furthermore, the Australian Government allocated $6.40bn (A$9bn) for rail and road connections.
As part of the investment, nearly $2.49bn (A$3.5bn) will be provided for carrying out road infrastructure and upgrades under the Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan.
Besides, $3.73bn (A$5.25bn) will be utilised for executing the initial phase of the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport rail link.
