Swiss information technology company SITA has completed an extensive technology deployment at Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL).
As part of the technology upgrade, the airport has been equipped with SITA biometric-enabled self-service touchpoints.
The company has installed over 100 SITA biometric-enabled self-service Smart Path kiosks, the TS6, SITA Smart Path Bag Drop, and renewed its IT infrastructure.
These kiosks offer wireless connectivity and will become operational this month.
In addition, these solutions are compatible with SITA Flex and the common-use API-based services for a mobile traveller experience.
SITA’s new TS6 kiosk secured the 2021 IF Design award for a ‘slick, sustainable and adaptive design.’
These biometric-enabled systems can be tailored according to the requirements of the airport’s brand design and clients.
Its modular design enables modifications without the need of replacing the whole kiosk.
Additionally, for providing safe and fast data communications, Malaysia Airports has moved to Windows 10 and overhauled its CORE servers and network equipment, along with the Baggage Reconciliation System.
The technology-related revamp is being executed under a broader transition from Airport 3.0 to Airport 4.0.
This transition aims to develop an integrated digital ecosystem that utilises business intelligence and gathers data for offering better passenger journey.
Airport 4.0 project also focuses on improving terminal use, enhancing operational efficiency, and increase revenue.

Recently, Palermo Falcone Borsellino International Airport (PMO) utilised SITA to trial its emissions management technology.
