France’s Alstef Group has secured a project to upgrade the baggage system at Dzaoudzi–Pamandzi International Airport (DZA) on the southern tip of Pamanzi Island in Mayotte.
Under the project, the existing baggage solution, which was deployed by the company in 2013, will be expanded.
The baggage system overhaul will be executed under a broader airport expansion plan, which is being implemented by airport concessionaire Edeis to facilitate the airport’s growth.
Alstef Group sales engineer Thibault Chambon said: “We have maintained our relationship with the airport since completing the new terminal baggage system nearly a decade ago and are delighted to be selected again for this upgrade project.”
As part of the upgrades, a transfer line, new check-in conveyors, an outbound screening conveyor system with a new Standard 3 x-ray screening machine and a prolonged sortation carousel will be added.
This will support increased capacity and functional baggage system improvements.
Edeis Aéroport Mayotte deputy director Jean Chadoutaud said: “Edeis Aéroport Mayotte is pleased to work again with Alstef Group on this major project for the airport. This upgrade of our baggage system to EU security standards will also increase capacity to meet territory needs for economic growth.
“We feel very confident about Alstef Group’s abilities to achieve this project thanks to their dedicated organisation, attentiveness, and recognised experience.”
This project will be carried out in phases to minimise disruption in airport operations.
The last stage of the upgrade work is expected to complete by mid-2023.
Dzaoudzi–Pamandzi International Airport is the sole airport in Mayotte.
It offers scheduled flight services to places within Africa, metropolitan France and La Réunion Island.
In September, Alstef Group secured a contract to modernise the baggage handling system at Keflavik Airport (KEF) in Iceland.
