Russia’s Pulkovo Saint Petersburg Airport (LED), which is operated by Northern Capital Gateway, has chosen Amadeus Altéa Departure Control for Ground Handlers.

Amadeus claimed that its process is based on software-as-a-service, which means that each airline need not deploy its own system at Pulkovo airport.

The Amadeus ground handlers will be able to cater to any airline through a single interface, thereby eliminating the requirement for agents to switch between multiple airline systems.

Its approach addresses issues such as long training cycles, inefficient operations on an everyday basis and the difficulty for agents to cater to passengers based on each airline’s particular requirements.

The shift to the new technology provides several benefits such as disruptive situations can be more effectively managed between airlines and the airport due to the system’s functionality, claimed Amadeus.

Furthermore, the airport’s agents will be to gain enhanced flight management capabilities, including precise ‘weight and balance’ forecasts, which in turn ensures the appropriate positioning of bags in the aircraft hold so that fuel can be optimally conserved.

Northern Capital Gateway CEO Leonid Sergeev said: “We’re committed to being a passenger experience leader within the industry. Right now, there is more uncertainty and disruption than ever before, so our ground handling agents need a system that helps them identify and address any service incidents. Amadeus is helping to simplify our IT set-up with modern technology that supports our passenger experience strategy.”

Amadeus vice-president EMEA for Airport IT Yannick Beunardeau said: “Pulkovo should be commended for its commitment to improving the passenger experience. This technology refresh helps the airport to reduce costs whilst positioning Pulkovo to emerge strongly as demand returns.”

Serving around 20 million passengers in 2019, Pulkovo Saint Petersburg Airport is the fourth largest airport in Russia.

In October, Memphis International Airport (MEM) in the US deployed several Amadeus airport management solutions to boost its operational capabilities.
