Swissport has secured a five-year air cargo handling contract from Turkish Airlines (TK) to handle activities at Brussels Airport (BRU) in Belgium.
The new contract comes after a recent five-year renewal of cooperation between the company and the carrier at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS).
Scheduled to come into effect this month, the contract includes air cargo handling and ramp services for three weekly freight flights and cargo handling for regular passenger flights at the airport.
Turkish Airlines will also move to Swissport’s new four-storey office building next to the Brussels cargo complex.
Swissport managing director for Belgium, the Netherlands and Denmark Thierry Miremont said: “We are very proud to welcome Turkish Airlines as a new customer in Brussels. The five-year contract is the result of a thorough selection process and solidifies our long-standing and successful international cooperation.”
Turkish Cargo West Europe regional director Raşit Yilmaz said: “Brussels Airport is an important gateway for us, as we are widening our network and focusing more on special products such as pharmaceuticals.
“After many years of successful cooperation with Swissport in Amsterdam, we are glad to announce this enlarged partnership with Swissport in Brussels. Their global experience and well-equipped facilities will play a key role in achieving our goals.”
Recently, Swissport signed a contract with International Airlines Group (IAG) to provide airport ground services for IAG’s airlines at the new Berlin Brandenburg International Airport (BER) for three years.
The contract included airport ground services for British Airways, Vueling and Iberia flights, covering ramp handling, aircraft cleaning, passenger services at check-in and gates, baggage loading and pushback services.
The company has been providing numerous ground services to 17 carriers since opening the new airport in Germany.
