Ten people have been injured after a drone laden with explosives attacked at King Abdullah Airport in Jizan, Saudi Arabia.
Coalition spokesman Brig Gen Turki Al-Maliki was quoted by the Saudi news agency SPA as saying: “Two armed drones launched from Yemen were shot down from the sky by Saudi air defences.”
He held ‘Iran-backed Huthi militia’ responsible for this attack.
Citing the Saudi-led coalition fighting alongside the Yemeni Government, SPA said that the injured included travellers and airport employees.
The first drone attack wounded six Saudis, three Bangladeshi nationals and one Sudanese.
Falling debris from the destroyed drone shattered the airport’s facade windows.
A few hours later, the Saudi-led coalition intercepted a second explosives-laden drone.
According to reports, the air traffic at King Abdullah Airport was not disrupted due to the attack.
Last week, four people were injured at Abha International Airport in southern Saudi Arabia as a result of an attack carried out by a drone laden with explosives.
The drone was intercepted and destroyed but the debris injured four workers.
The Saudi-led coalition blamed the Iran-aligned Houthis for the attack, which has been engaged in a conflict with the government forces for many years.
Last September, Houthi drone strikes on Abha International Airport injured at least eight people and damaged a civilian aeroplane.
