Airport owner and operator Flughafen Wien Group has reported that the total passenger volume in 2022 rose to 30.1 million travellers.

During the year, the company’s revenue was €692.7m, showing a 70.2% increase from €407.0m in 2021.

Revenues of the Flughafen Wien’s airport segment grew by 89.3% to €321.0m while the handling and security services segment posted a 32.3% revenue rise to €124.9m.

The net profit of the operator increased significantly to €128.1m over the year, compared to €6.6m in 2021.

The company earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) almost doubled to €295.9m in 2022.

Flughafen Wien management board member Günther Ofnern said: “Vienna Airport is once again demonstrating its strength following the Covid-19 downturn – strong growth in all areas – safeguarding the stock market listing is an important corporate objective

“About €800m in debt could be eliminated since 2011, and the company achieved net debt-free status in 2022.

“These good business results will serve as the basis for a clear growth path based on higher investments, which should equal about €135m, alongside the dynamic growth of AirportCity.”

In fiscal 2023, Flughafen Wien expects net profit to improve to more than €150m and EBITDA of at least €325m. It expects revenue of approximately €830m.

Flughafen Wien management board member Julian Jäger said: “The strong passenger volume of 2022 will continue into 2023. We expect the total number of passengers to equal about 26-27 million at Vienna Airport and 32-34 million in the entire Flughafen-Wien-Group.

“Up to 190 destinations will be directly reached from Vienna, including many new short-haul and medium-haul destinations to European cities and the Mediterranean region. Long-haul flight service is also making a strong comeback again, as reflected in the new flight connection to Delhi and increased frequencies to Africa, Asia and Canada.”
